Going to the bag of chocolate chip granola is like a let down waiting to happen. Allllll those missing chocolate chips and sad stray oats. And I think we all get it? The chocolate is the best part. Well, today, we’re going to solve this problem-this problem of chip thievery. What if , I mean, what if, every bite of granola had chocolate in it? What kind of world would that be? A better one I say. Here’s my contribution to eeeerrryone who’s bummed out about this issue: Chocolate Peanut Butter Granola
This recipe is so simple but it makes my children (and myself) very happy. Clusters of toasted, slightly spiced oats, salty peanuts (with extra peanut butter thrown in) and…chocolate. No more handfuls of sad, stray, oats. Giant clusters of chocolaty, peanut buttery goodness comin’ at ya right here.
Let’s make Chocolate Peanut Butter Granola
Alright, let’s make this chocolate peanut butter granola. First, you’ll melt down some peanut butter with honey and mix it thoroughly with the oats. Press this deliciousness onto a baking sheet and pop it into the oven. At this point, be prepared for your children to meander into the kitchen. It’s gonna smell so good!
Now for our little trick. Don’t wait for the granola to cool before adding the chocolate. Just put those chips on straight out of the oven.

Now as soon as the chocolate starts to melt, toss everything together. Then flatten it back out to an even layer and let cool like this.
If you want to speed it up, stick that pan into the freezer. It’s going to be difficult to wait any longer because at this point, your neighbors are knocking at your door, it smells THAT good. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
This has got to be the quintessential after school snack. Or bedtime snack. Breakfast is great too. Fine, just…your perfect anytime snack. With a tall class of cold milk next to it or poured on top. MMM.
My friend, you’ve solved a lot of problems at this point. The chocolate chip thief is no longer tempted to steal, the upstanding members in your household won’t point fingers all uppity like, peanut butter and chocolate are in every bite. Your neighbors have gathered at your home, drawn by the hope of peanut butter and chocolate; and what with the stray dogs that have congregated in your yard (and will be adopted now) you’ve basically started a charity. I mean that’s rich.

- Let cool. Depending on how warm my kitchen is, I will pop this into the fridge or freezer to speed up the cooling.
- Break into large pieces with a spatula. Serve with cold milk by the side or on top!
Notes
* Feel free to adjust the chocolate amount. I’d say 3/4 cup is just right for an intense chocolate flavor but for those who want the oats to shine a bit more, go for 1/2 cup.
Store in the fridge or freezer for up to a month. You can keep stored at room temperature but depending on how warm your kitchen is, may have melted chocolate on your hands.
